Facial Dentistry

The new system for Dental Aesthetics

What is Facial Dentistry?

Aesthetic, or Cosmetic dentistry is now a well known field and can deliver vast improvements for many people.
Dr Howard Stean is a pioneer in dental aesthetics, and founded the ADAPT society in 1993 for the study and promotion of excellence in this subject.
Most recently, Dr Stean has studied the range of dental procedures now available and has incorporated the sophisticated and precise methods into a new system termed Facial Dentistry™

Facial Dentistry can change the shape of the face.

It can offer the most comprehensive and permanent improvements not only to the teeth and gums, but also to the smile, supporting the lips cheeks and chin in a way that improves form of the facial structures.

How is Facial Dentistry performed?

A thorough diagnosis is essential. This will include Photographs, Digital X-rays and scans, models of the teeth, and frequently a jaw recording.
The jaw recording, when required, is particularly important as it can identify pre-existing discrepancies that might need correction.
A temporary de-programming plate may be designed for wearing, which will permit normal jaw function to return. This will allow the condyles (jaw joints) to return to a comfortable and reproducable seated position. This is often used when the patient has a pre-existing jaw 'click' or/and discomfort around the joints.

Dental Preview

Following mounting of the models onto an adjustable articulator instrument, a design for the proposed dental improvements will be made.
This can be transferred to the mouth from a 'Diagnostic waxup' allowing the patient to see the shape and function of the new dental work, before it is fabricated. At this stage corrections to tooth positions by addition or subtraction may be necessary.

Final Restorative and/or Orthodontic treatment.

The diagnosis expose faults in the jaw alignment and tooth position & care will then be carried out over a period of time to achieve the desired result. This will vary for each individual. The predicted outcome will approximate to the ideal occlusion and facial aesthetics.
