Syllabus 

Patient evaluation and assessment for long term success.  Philosophy of Aesthetic concepts.  Use of study models, imaging and radiography techniques.  Comprehending the literature and making sense of scientific papers. Access to the ADAPT ‘College of Knowledge’. 

Direct composite bonding, adhesive technology and scientific basis for enamel and dentine bonding.  Newer products compared.  The importance of rubber dam.  Minimal cavity designs and use of airbrasion, sonic and ultrasonic preparation systems as an adjunct to accepted instrumentation. Caries dissolving gels. Understanding of occlusal principles, and integrating these within the treatment programme. 

Laser Dentistry  uses of lasers in restorative and periodontal treatment, including Diagnostic laser, NdYAG and Erbium YAG instruments. KaVo artificial teeth will be provided for tuition on preparation techniques for Indirect Inlays, Onlays and Crowns.  Laboratory stages and technical considerations with Mr Anthony Knight. 

Illusory Effects in dentistry.  Tooth colour appreciation and modification.  How to remove stains (extrinsic and intrinsic)  Survey of tooth whitening procedures, surgery tooth whitening, categories and planning.  Enamel microabrasionColour coupling, balance and measurement. 

Crown/bridgework and laminate veneers:  In depth discussion of principles, together with contemporary thinking and newer techniques. These will include Captek, Preciano, Artglass, Belleglass and Procera. Demonstrations of surgery and laboratory practices. Analysis of failure.  Tooth modification procedures including Cosmetic Recontouring, cuspal grinding and enamel polishing.  

Implant dentistry: Theory and practice.  Case selection that offers patients a  comprehensive choice of treatments.  Introduction to osseo-integrated techniques, with clinical examples.  Periodontal surgical treatments that improve and detract from aesthetics, including clinical treatment of altered passive eruption in adults.  Appreciation of the fundamental importance of maintaining healthy periodontal tissues. 

Dental imaging, digital and dental photography: how to do it with practical examples.  Video imaging systems.  Preparing case presentations. 

Marketing strategies and fee structures: integrating Aesthetic dentistry into a general practice. 

 


FEE   £2,250 plus VAT (£2,587.50) inclusive of notes, book, reprints and refreshments

Dr Howard Stean

 
Howard Stean qualified in London in 1971. He gained his MGDS in 1981 has recently been installed as Visiting Professor in restorative dentistry, University of Havana, Cuba.
